Location Managers find the sites that best represent the visual concept of the producer, director and production designer. These highly paid and well-respected professionals are a vital component of the design team for feature films, TV shows, commercials, music videos and still photography.
This is the perfect opportunity to begin or advance a career in filmmaking. Location Management is a perfect bridge from film school to the set.
Location Managers can earn at least $600-$700 per day.
Intuition, research, knowledge and good old-fashioned hard work combine to make the ideal Location Manager. He or she is responsible for finding and managing the locations that best tell the story. In addition to giving creative input, the Location Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of locations.
Part of their duties include:
- Breaking down script and shot requirements.
- Scouting, budgeting locations; requesting and pulling permits.
- Coordinate power sources and location capabilities for full equipment setup, and off-set capabilities for generators.
- Commercials
- Meet with those neighbors and merchants directly affected by prep, shoot, or wrap activities.
- Coordinate legal issues, such as negotiate the location fees and contracts and clear sound restrictions with company attorneys.
- Notify both crew and public of extended production hours and of special effects that may be shot that day.
- Notify neighbors of filming and gather releases as required.
- Schedule police, fire safety officers and security personnel.
- Coordinate with company safety department and supervise environmental clearance and studies in an expedited manner.
- Design and implement traffic plans and street closures.
- Work closely with transportation department to ensure that parking arrangements meet both production and neighborhood needs.
- Prepare directional signage and maps to the locations.
- Act as liaison between the public and the shooting crew.
